MIRI: Mayor Adam Yii calls on tourism and business operators to come up with quality products and regular promotions to attract tourists and invertors to the city.
He assured that the Miri City Council (MCC) would fully support their efforts.
However, he admitted that the infrastructures needed to be improved to enhance the tourism industry in the city and he pledged that MCC would do its best to improve them.
“Miri has its own attractions. Apart from shopping complexes there are varieties of food the tourists can enjoy here,” he said.

Yii said this in his address at the launching of the 13th Miri Trade Fair (Mitraf) at Permaisuri Imperial Mall here.
The event is organised by See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd in collaboration with The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo, Yii’s text speech was read by Councilor Ernest Goh who represented him at the ceremony.
He said good promotion and publicity, trade exhibitions and expos such as Mitraf which is a platform to promote products, food, services and various others could also lure tourists to Miri.
With the coming of the Chinese New Year celebration, such trade expos are considered as a ‘one-stop-centre’ for consumers to find various items they need in preparation for the celebration.
“The public should use this opportunity (trade fair) to get the items they need at reasonable prices,” he said.
Meanwhile, more than 70 traders are taking part in the 13th Mitraf, which not only see participation of companies from throughout Sarawak, but also from West Malaysia.
Also present at the launching ceremony yesterday were acting manager for See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd Miri, Chua Chung Chai; chief executive officer of Boulevard Group, Donny Yew as well as representatives of sponsors including United Fusion Sdn Bhd and Naim Cendera .
