美里省公署舊址將打造為文化博物館

(本報美里27日訊）砂旅游、藝術與文化部助理部長拿督李景胜今日在美里市政局，向出席月度會議的市議員、官員進行促銷美里旅游發展的簡報會。

他提出數個美里具有旅游發展潛能的景區和賣點，促請當局和旅游業者善加利用，促進美里旅游發展。

他說，美里前省公署建筑物將打造成為文化博物館，讓美里27個不同族群的文化都在此博物館展出，也將美里石油和天然气資源? 歷史，一并在此博物館展示，展現美里從小漁村發展至今天的歷史過程。

他說，目前上述文化博物館顧問公司已完成勘察。此地不會被發展為另一個商業地段。

天主教堂成景點

李景胜說，除了現有省公署舊址將打造成為美里文化博物館外，建筑物后巷的天主教堂，他之前已向教堂管理層建議，將之打造為另一個具有歷史古跡的地區，吸引游客參觀文化博物館時，順道參觀這座建筑歷史悠久的天主教堂。

他說，美里擁有許多值得推祟和推介為旅游景區的地點，包括位于丹絨羅邦山岭區的“大王樓”、燈塔區、日据時代的紀念碑等，都可以進一步推廣，成為美里旅游的另一個景點。

李景胜說，沿机場路，即美里公園對面的岩脈外露山壁，是許多外國地質學家都嚮往考察的岩礦層最佳地點。

Kelabit museum highlights megaliths

The launching of the Kelabit community museum was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the 12th Pesta Nukenen (Food Festival) in Bario recently.

MIRI: Bario, located in the Highlands of Borneo and homeland of the indigenous Kelabit tribe, is not only known for its peaceful agricultural atmosphere but also famous for its megalithic monuments.
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts deputy dean (student affairs and alumni) Dr Yakup Mohd Rafee said the Kelabit community in the highlands of Bario should be proud that they are rich with all sorts of fascinating heritage and culture.

MIRI: The Miri Cultural and Heritage Museum —the first community-based museum in the city—is expected to open its doors to visitors by early next year.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the current effort to convert the old Miri Resident Office into a museum is still in progress.

MIRI: The proposed Miri Cultural and Heritage Museum – the first museum in Sarawak built in a former office complex of historical value – is scheduled to open to the public by September this year.
Curator of Sarawak Museum’s Natural History and Zoology, Dr Charles Leh, said the design for the project is complete and will be forwarded soonest to the Public Works Department (PWD) to call for tender.
“We have the funds for the project and once a tender had been called by PWD and renovation work begin, we expect the museum to be ready and open to the public by September this year,” he said when contacted recently.

Resident’s, DO building to become a museum

MIRI: Sarawak Museum Department will carry out an in-depth research before commencing renovation works on the former Miri Resident’s and District Office building and turning it into a museum.
The curator of Sarawak Museum Department, Dayang Norzanah Awang Haddy, said the renovation project, which will be carried out in two phases, will include the Sarawak Islamic Department (Jais) Miri office which is located at the end of the building.

（本报美里7日讯）美里石油博物馆冷气损坏、设施破旧问题迄今乃未解决改善。
自2016年3月期间，美里最具历史性及吸引外国游客来参观的石油博物馆，也称为一号油井，建立于加拿大山最高顶上。
石油博物馆也配合2005年5月20日美里升市，由前首长敦泰益玛目主持开幕，并吸引游客前往参观，尤其是外国人的关注，来到美里，必到此一游。
为了保存石油博物馆历史古迹，由砂州政府、国家石油公司与砂蚬标公司在该处建造了这座耗资1千万令吉的石油博物馆，向世人展示美里石油业的辉煌历史。
馆里陈列着石油形成与分布图、石油开发示意图、地下石油、海外钻油台模型、图文并茂的石油业发展历史照片，和一些钻油机器等。

MIRI: The proposed cultural and heritage museum here will be by ready by June or July.
Curator of Sarawak Museum’s Natural History and Zoology, Dr Charles Leh, said they were now awaiting funds for the development of the museum – which is the existing Miri Resident and District Office (Rando) at Angsana Road.
The complex, which also houses the Islamic Religious Department (Jais) was built in 1912, soon after the first oil well in the country was sunk atop Canada Hill in 1910.
Staff of the complex are expected to move soon to the newly completed Baitulmal complex in Boulevard Commercial Centre, Pujut-Kuala Baram Road.

Friends of Sarawak Museum eager for more volunteers

KUCHING: Friends of Sarawak Museum (FoSM) is eager to welcome more willing hands and creative minds to help out with their upcoming heritage projects.
FoSM President Rebecca D’Cruz said that in January next year, they would launch their Three-Year Strategic Plan and to continue their work of the last four years, which consisted, among others, of organising public talks and events.

Brooke Gallery opens at Fort Margherita

KUCHING: The iconic Fort Margherita, which now has been turned into Brooke Gallery, opened its doors to the public yesterday after it was officiated by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
A collaboration between the State Museum Department, Tourism Cultural and Heritage Sarawak and the Brooke Trust, the gallery showcases belongings from the Brooke family and artefacts during their time as the White Rajah.
