‘14 to 15 km of Miri-Marudi road to be tar-sealed by Aug’

Penguang (seated centre), Chong (seated third right) and others give the thumbs-up to the latest progress of Miri-Marudi road upgrading works.
MIRI: Marudi folks including visitors can expect 14 to 15 kilometres of the Miri-Marudi road to be tar-sealed by August this year.
This assurance came from Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, who said this was to give commuters and those coming for the Baram Regatta 2017 from Aug 25-27 convenience and safety.

“We give the people assurance of total commitment to Miri-Marudi road upgrading which is progressing well and ahead of schedule.
“The people also can expect some 14 to 15 kilometres of the road to be tar-sealed before the Baram Regatta in August this year,” he stated to the media after chairing the fourth meeting on the progress of the upgrading works on Miri-Marudi road at the Public Works Department (JKR) office here yesterday.
The meeting was attended by Miri JKR divisional engineer Chong Chi Fam, representatives from relevant agencies and community leaders.
Penguang, who is also Marudi assemblyman, said sections of the road would be closed every one or two months for three to four days for intensive works to lay premix.
Thus, he is seeking full cooperation and understanding from the people to be more cautious while using the road.
In general, he was satisfied with the latest progress of the road upgrading works.
He thanked JKR and contractor CMS Roads for their commitment and dedication to ensure the upgrading works are completed by March 2019.
On the proposal to connect Limbang and Lawas to Miri via Marudi road, he believed the Works Ministry was working out the details on the matter.
Works Minister Dato Sri Faddillah Yusof recently said his ministry was in the process of making a technical study on the proposal to link up Limbang and Lawas with Miri city via Marudi.
