DBKU saddled with 1.2 million unpaid compound notices

KUCHING: The City North Commission (DBKU) here revealed in a statement yesterday that 1.2 million compound notices valued at about RM8 million for parking offenders remain unpaid as of October this year.
Most of the unpaid compounds were parking offences for over parking and parking without displaying coupon and several offenders have outstanding parking compounds amounting to RM15,000.
DBKU is taking this matter seriously and  advised the offenders to pay all their outstanding compounds or face prosecution.

The statement added that to date 14,189 cases had been filed in court against the vehicle owners for various parking offences.
Under Article 30 of the Road Transport Order (Provision of Parking Places) (City of Kuching North) Order 2005 upon conviction penalty shall be not exceeding RM 300 apart from payment of all outstanding fees and charges to DBKU.
DBKU Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Wahap Abang Julai said the court cases were a deterrent to would be offenders and to encourage the public to be responsible as they need to pay the parking fees whenever they park their vehicles in the designated parking places.
Parking system is regulated throughout Kuching city to ease the congestion and indiscriminate use of the bays.
The statement added that drivers sometimes threw away parking notices issued to them but this could not stop DBKU from prosecuting the vehicle owners in court as records of the compounds still available.
The public are urged to display their parking coupon accordingly when they park between 8am to 5pm, from Monday to Friday (except for weekends and Public Holidays).
For over parking, the offenders have to pay over parking fees within three working days after the notices have been issued. Otherwise, the offence shall be compounded with an additional sum of RM10 to be paid.
