KUCHING: A mobile phone application to promote tourism in Sarawak called ‘SARraider – Sarawak Raiders’, specially designed by Young Malaysians Movement (YMM) in collaboration with local technology company ASIASOFT Business Solutions, is expected to be launched this year-end.
In a press statement issued yesterday, YMM said the dedicated mobile phone app will be a reference guide for tourists which will allow them to learn more about the harmony, culture, food and eco-tourism sites in the state.

YMM Sarawak chairman Shim Poh Szu believed that the rapid development of science and technology and the wide use of social media have made the world ‘smaller’.
But he lamented that the state lacks direct flights that restricts the number of tourists to see its many eco-attractions, ethnic diversity, culture and cuisine, and even international events such as the Rainforest World Music Festival.
The app will temporarily be in English and Chinese. Besides introducing Sarawak’s history, culture and geography, it will also highlight the state’s landmarks and famous local cuisine restaurants besides other attractions.
At the same time, YMM will promote the app on Facebook, You Tube and other online platforms for more publicity.
They welcome businesses or individuals who can provide technology, photo-shooting or funding to make the app more effective in attracting interests.
Shim was pleased to note that Sarawakians are promoting and sharing Sarawak’s tourism attractions and food through Facebook and other social media.
